Mr. coffee smart wifi enabled coffee maker: Review

Mr. coffee

Mr. coffee smart wifi-enabled coffee maker is obsessed with making you a perfect cup of coffee at home with minimal effort on your part. Morning, perfection is not a concept any of us need to be familiar with. You can control this machine using your smartphone, and schedule it to start brewing in your office before you even leave your house.  That means you can command the machine to brew from anywhere you have access to the WeMo mobile app and live Internet connection. The Optimal Brew also supports a fully customizable 7-day programmable schedule and is easy to handle and clean.

While simple coffee makers like this one are still coveted by regular coffee drinkers, there are other coffee drinkers who may want a little bit more in terms of features.

Look:

Most of the brewer is made from black plastic, though it has a reflective silver façade that’s meant to look like stainless steel. A 10-cup thermal decanter rests at the base, and keeps coffee warm for at least two hours after it’s been brewed.

Mr. Coffee is black with stainless steel or silver-colored plastic, giving it a timeless look.

At 14.25 x 11 x 8.75 inches, the Mr. Coffee machine takes up a lot more space on your kitchen counter than a typical French press.

The only indication that this machine is Internet-ready is a Wi-Fi indicator light on the front that turns amber or green, depending on its connection status. On the top left, a clear plastic reservoir holds water for up to 10 cups; I like that you can remove the reservoir from the coffee maker, which makes it easy to fill and clean.

What makes it smart?

Smart Optimal Brew uses Wi-Fi wireless networking to talk to Belkin’s WeMo mobile app on either iOS or Android phones and tablets. This gives the coffeemaker some novel capabilities such as full 7-day weekly programmable brewing schedule. So if you want to have the device automatically brew coffee at 7 a.m. Monday through Friday but perhaps 9 a .m. on Saturday and maybe 11 a.m. on Sunday, no sweat.

The WeMo app also provides a much more intuitive way to interact with the appliance than using the glorified VCR control pads common on basic programmable coffeemakers. You just tap the Mr. Coffee icon within the app then touch the green arrow under its name to tweak its brewing schedule. The appliance and the WeMo app will also push notifications for when the water tank needs a refill or if the water filter is due for a replacement.

Price

The price of the Mr. Coffee WeMo is pretty much in the middle of the road when compared to other auto drip coffee makers.

The Coffee Quality

As noted earlier, I was pleasantly surprised by the way the coffee tasted. It was hot and consistently delicious.

The grounds appeared to be evenly saturated, the coffee was hot, and the brew time was in the acceptable SCAA range (note: this is not an SCAA Certified Coffee Maker).
