The Amazon Cloud Cam is the first branded plug-and-play camera released by the behemoth online retailer. Amazon Cloud Cam keeps eye on your home while you’re away, but it compatible with Alexa. You can tell Alexa to cast your Cloud Cam to your Fire TV, Fire Tablet, Echo Show, or Echo Spot to quickly see what’s happening in another room in your house — perfect for those times when your kids have been a little too quiet in their playroom.
It’s a decent camera overall, and at $120 (cheaper per unit if you buy multipacks) it’s affordable. Amazon’s first home security camera offers great value for the money. Cloud Cam provides a 24-hour video stream, for live viewing at any time, and stores clips when it senses motion in the camera’s field of view. It stores recorded events for up to 24 hours without requiring a subscription. Subscriptions buy you more storage space and you also get the benefit of extra features. It’s pretty convenient to be able to see what’s going on now and clips from the previous day all at once.
Setup is simple, All you need to plug the Cloud Cam into the wall, download the app and follow the pairing instructions. The LED above the camera flashes blue on startup and blue/green in pairing mode. It’s permanently green when the camera is on; there’s no way to turn it off. It has 1080p resolution and a wide 120-degree field of view.
Amazon’s Cloud Cam app, on the other hand, is a lot more basic — in a good way. You’ll see a live view of the camera, with a collection of clips below it.

- Introducing Amazon Key
Not at home? Not a problem.
As a Prime member, get your Amazon packages securely delivered just inside your front door. Plus, grant access to the people you trust, like your family, friends, dog walker, or house cleaner—no more leaving a key under the mat.
Another great feature designed to cut down on unnecessary alert notifications is Zones, which let you go into the Amazon Cloud Cam app and highlight areas of the camera’s viewing angle that it doesn’t need to monitor for movement alerts.
Finally, Amazon’s Cloud Cam is a great choice. The 1080p video quality is good, the default 24-hour archive is a nice bonus and the night-vision mode isn’t bad, either. It’s well-built, affordable and has an advanced motion sensor that can separate people from pets. The geofencing feature is a little finicky, and you can’t turn off the camera LED if you want it to be in stealth mode.
